C Celsius Unit of measurement
CAC charged air cooler Designed to cool air to improve air density allowing more air mass to flow to the engine. Used with turbochargers and superchargers.
CAFE corporate average fuel economy United States government regulations intended to improve the average fuel economy of cars and light trucks, vans and suv / sport utility vehicles sold in the US. Brought on by the 1973 Arab Oil Embargo.
CALPAK calibration pack Used with a ECM
CARB California Air Resources Board Attains and maintains healthy air quality. Conducts research into the causes of and solutions to air pollution. Systematically attacks the serious problems caused by motor vehicles, which are a major cause of air pollution in the State.
CART Championship Auto Racing Teams Open wheel racing.
CAS crank angle sensor Used in timing an engine.
CC catalytic converter Inline of an engines exhaust system and is used to reduce emissions.
CC cubic centimeters Unit of measurement
CCC Car Care Council Building awareness and knowledge to prepare consumers to make sensible decisions about their vehicles.
CCOT clutch cycling orifice tube Pressurized liquid passes through the tube, the pressure is reduced and the temperature drops.
CCV canister control valve Controls venting of gas tank vapor from the charcoal canister
CESS cold engine sensor switch Controls spark timing or cold start fuel mixture.
CFC Chlorofluorocarbons Used in refrigerants / Freon, and solvents.
CFI central fuel injection Injects fuel from a throttle body, the same location where a carburetor would be mounted on a intake manifold. The induction mixture passes through the intake runners like a carburetor system.

CL closed loop A closed circuit (exhaust emissions)
CMP camshaft position sensor Used in timing an engine.

CO2 carbon dioxide Used to produce carbonated soft drinks and soda water.
CPP clutch pedal position Switch that completes a circuit to the starter motor when the clutch pedal is pushed in.
CPU central processing unit Carries out the instructions of a computer program.
CTP closed throttle position Indicates that the throttle is completely closed.
CTVS choke thermal vacuum switch Controls choke pull offs / air-fuel mixture.
